Healthy Fruit Popsicles

Fruitsicles? Popsicles? Ice pops? Whatever you choose to call them, what’s summer without popsicles and other yummy frozen treats to cool you down on those hot sunny days, right? Try these fast and easy healthy fruit popsicles / fruitsicles I made today using Crystal Light drink mix! Many store-bought popsicles are loaded with sugar and artificial colors and flavors that are not only unhealthy, but a nightmare to a dieter or anyone trying to drop a few pounds this summer but these popsicles are a delicious yummy low calorie treat you can throw together in no time that will make a great treat for both kids and adults alike. If you do not have Crystal Light on hand, you can use another brand of low-calorie drink mix.

This recipe is super customizable! Use whatever shape or size of popsicle molds you may have on hand; or if you don’t have any – emptied and cleaned SnackPack JuicyGel or yogurt cups, or another sort of small plastic cup or container would work fine, too. I used strawberries, blueberries, and fresh mangoes in my fruitsicles, but chock in whatever fruits you want to change up the flavor. You may also partially or fully puree all or some of your fruits before mixing in to change up the texture, but I just chopped mine and threw them in as-is to save time.

By the way, if you love popsicles as much as I do – you’ll probably love this Popsicle Recipe Book by Krystina Castella which I grabbed at a garage sale the other day for a quarter! I haven’t made any of the specific popsicle recipes featured in the book yet, but it’s full of TONS of really cool and creative ideas for all sorts of summer treats on a stick, from simple to fancy!

Healthy Fruit Popsicles

So these homemade popsicles are incredibly simple AND healthy! In a medium mixing bowl, add water and your chosen flavor of Crystal Light powdered drink mix. I used Strawberry – Orange – Banana because it’s what I had in the cupboard, but I think the Peach or Lemonade flavors would be tasty, too! Stir and continue adding to taste – remember whatever fruits you add will add lots of natural flavor and sweetness, too. Chop up some fruits and toss them in, then pour into your popsicle molds, freeze and enjoy! If you aren’t using popsicle molds – I recommend spraying your plastic (or metal) cups or containers lightly with nonstick cooking spray; I used Coconut Oil spray, to help your popsicles slide out easily when they’re done. I’ve also seen small paper cups used for popsicles but haven’t tried that personally, let me know how it works if you choose that method. If you aren’t using molds, put your fruitsicles carefully into the freezer and allow to freeze partially before inserting popsicle sticks into the center of each and placing back into the freezer. I used shish kabob skewers because I didn’t have any on hand. You could even make these in ice cube trays and later add to water, lemonade, or any drink you like for a delightful twist! Also, I used fresh organic fruits, but you could probably use frozen or even canned fruits, too.

Easy Homemade Fruitsicle Recipe

I didn’t calculate nutrition facts on these because I think they’re probably 10 calories or less per fruitsicle – depending upon which fruits you use, how much fruit, and the size of your molds of course. Healthy yummy summer deliciousness that both adults and kids of all ages will love – a perfect complement to that backyard BBQ! Happy summer, enjoy! :)

Oh! And if a creamier, ice-cream type fruit popsicle is more your thing – come back tomorrow for my recipe for Strawberry Blueberry Swirl Frozen Yogurt Pops, made using Chobani! Mmmmm. Packed with protein from the greek yogurt, too. I can’t wait to try these ones as soon as they finish up in the freezer!
